Luminus CEO Nominated to State Hate Crimes Commission
We are thrilled to announce that Luminus’ CEO, Gabriel Maximilian Moreno, Esq, has been nominated to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Commission on Hate Crime Response and Prevention and will serve in an acting capacity until confirmed by the Maryland State Senate, which is expected in the 2025 legislative session.
“I am honored to join my fellow Commissioners and Attorney General Anthony G. Brown in combatting hate, addressing underreported incidents, and providing policy guidance to stamp out hate in Maryland.” Moreno said, “I am proud this opportunity to advance Luminus’ work and our core values of Community and Inclusive, which are so important and so meaningful.”
History: The Maryland Office of the Attorney General created a hotline to address hate crimes in 2016. In 2021, the Hate Crimes Task Force was created and, in 2023, the state legislature passed House Bill 1066 to make the Task Force a permanent commission. The Commission must provide annual reports the Maryland State Department of Education and the Maryland General Assembly beginning December 1, 2024.
