Backwater Books in old Ellicott City
From their social media post:
“We stand in Solidarity with the General Strike on Jan 30th. Like many small businesses, it is unrealistic for us to close tomorrow. We are dealing with major impacts from the recent snow storm and we need to pay our wonderful employees and our less wonderful BGE bill. Backwater Books will remain open to be a safe space to gather, organize, and care for one another.
Backwater Books will provide
- Coloring sheets to calm your nerves
- Contact information for elected officials to call and demand action
- Donate 10% of sales to Luminus Network for New Americans
- Free Live music from Josh Miller at 8pm”
Curious Iguana in Frederick
From their social media post:
“Tomorrow is a nationwide economic blackout to protest ICE. We support this collective pause on spending, work, and school and discussed as a team how best to participate. We’ve decided to be open tomorrow for our Frederick community. 💜
If you need a space to warm up, talk about the books you love, browse the shelves to quiet your mind, or just exist in a safe place where you are loved and welcome, we are here for you, no purchase required. 💜
As a benefit corporation, Curious Iguana donates a portion of monthly sales to a variety of local and national nonprofits. This month and next, we are supporting the Luminus Network for New Americans, a Maryland-based organization that empowers immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and asylees by offering legal services to help them achieve their goals.
