Intern Spotlight: Ezat Sharifi

Ezat Sharifi is an Economic Empowerment Intern with our New American Staffing team, and he has been supporting them by helping with intakes, resume editing, and data entry.

Ezat learned about Luminus from a fellow classmate and started volunteering with Luminus to help Afghan refugees with basic needs and interpreting for non-English speakers in Pashto. When Ezat found out about an opportunity to intern with the New American Staffing team, he did not hesitate to apply. He knew in this role he could work directly with the Employment & Retention Specialists and help clients find jobs. Ezat wishes to use his skills to help those who can benefit from it.

“What I am looking forward to most as a part of the internship or working at Luminus overall is acquiring important new skills while still being able to help people. I am looking forward to being able to work directly with clients and help them restart their careers in the United States or just find them new jobs or opportunities” stated Ezat.

Ezat is the youngest of six siblings and his family immigrated to the United States from Afghanistan due to the ongoing conflict. Ezat was born in Baltimore but has been a resident of Howard County for many years now. Ezat has many hobbies including cooking, gardening, going on walks, or reading a good science fiction/fantasy book. Ezat is interested in studying new languages and is currently learning Spanish, French, and Arabic in addition to being a native speaker of Pashto and English.

Ezat is a senior at Howard High School and is taking dual enrollment classes at Howard Community College through the Jumpstart program. Ezat’s goal is to study architecture at the University of Maryland, College Park and become a licensed architect.
