Luminus Shines Bright: Nearly 100 Clients Served in 2023, Making a Lasting Impact on SNAP Accessibility and Nutrition
Exciting News from Luminus! In 2023, we made a meaningful impact by directly serving almost 100 clients providing SNAP service, reaching approximately 400 households. Additionally, our community events and guidance reached almost 250 clients.
At Luminus, we’re committed to inclusivity and helping immigrants navigate the SNAP program. Eligible immigrants and mixed-status households often report not participating in SNAP due to factors like inaccurate information, complicated program rules, language barriers, discrimination and stigma. We strive to bridge these gaps and provide a supportive environment for all.
But do you know what SNAP is?
SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, plays a crucial role in supporting low-income families by offering food benefits to supplement their grocery budgets. This ensures access to nutritious food, vital for overall health and well-being.
The SNAP Story
In the United States, SNAP is a federal government program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). It aims to assist low- and no-income individuals in maintaining adequate nutrition and good health. Benefits are distributed by specific state departments, such as the Division of Social Services and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Did You Know?
As of 2018, SNAP benefits served around 40 million Americans, with an expenditure of $57.1 billion. In 2017, about 9.2% of American households received SNAP benefits, and approximately 16.7% of all children lived in households benefiting from SNAP. While the program faced peaks and declines due to economic shifts, it remains a crucial component of the social safety net for low-income Americans.
At Luminus, we’re honored to contribute to the well-being of our communities. Thank you for being a part of our journey towards a healthier, more nourished future!
